About NAN: Look Back to Yesterday


The running of NAN Gallery can be divided into three stages , the first decade from 1980 to 1990 ; the second decade from 1991 to year 2000 ; and the third stage from 2001 until now .

In the first decade , the major activities and achievements included :

1. The joint exhibition of paintings by well-known artists like Zao Wou-Ki etc. in 1980 .

2. The individual’s paintings exhibition of well-known artist like Walasse Ting in 1983.

3. To promote the emerging artists’ paintings of younger generations by offering affordable price to the general public . A promotional program named “ NT$10-thousand per painting ” in 1984 .

4. To launch “ Taipei Gallery Expo. “ by Lin Fu-Nan who served as the chairman of first Expo in 1986 .

5. To turn the focus from introducing modern arts to the field of indigenous paintings of Taiwan in 1987 .

6. To hold the first exhibition of small-sized popular oil paintings in 1988 .

7. To launch the “ Collectors’ Club “ by adopting membership system for circulating famous indigenous artist’s paintings via a sales campaign of “ buy -keep-resell “ program in 1989 .

8. At the 10th anniversary of NAN Gallery in 1990 , Lin Fu-Nan and Huang Yu-Lin went to Paris to call on French artists and visit galleries , returned to Taiwan with the introduction of Barbizon School paintings of France .

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of NAN Gallery , a “ NAN Gallery’s Decade Journal “ was published and held a specialty exhibition under the title of “ The Eternal Tam-shui “ ( a spectacular small town at the outskirt of Taipei city ) .

In the second decade , the major activities and achievements included :

1. Norlan Huang was appointed as the CEO of NAN Gallery in 1992 , who helped create “ Taiwan School “ in addition to the modern arts . Bi-monthly magazine of “ Taiwan School Paintings “ was then published .

2. NAN Gallery moved to a purchased office building located at downtown district in 1993 . “ Tung-hua Headquarters “ was established and launched the first exhibition of “ Commemoration of 2-28 incident paintings “ in Taiwan .

3. “ 2-28 Day of Peace “ exhibition of Taiwan paintings was held again in 1998 , joined by a France-resided Taiwanese artist Mr. Y. H. Chang and his wife .

4. At the 20th anniversary of NAN Gallery , www.nan.com.tw website was installed in the year 2000 to lead NAN Gallery into Internet era .

In the third stage from 2001 until now , the activities and achievements included :

1. Huang Yu-Lin planned and carried out the activity of “ Wall-less Hall of Fine Arts : SOHO of July 7th Love “ ( Valentine’s Day of lunar calendar in Taiwan ) at Tung-hua Headquarters in 2001 .

The same year , Huang Yu-Lin wrote a book for kids with title of “ Abu-chi making a gallery tour “ selected and published by the Education Bureau of Taiwan .

2. Submitted a proposal to the Taipei city government for developing a “ Wall-less Hall of Fine Arts “ in 2003 .

3. Opened another exhibition site of “ Jen-Ai New Gallery “ behind the most costly residential building in Taipei , to parallel with the “ Tung-hua Headquarters “ and unveiled the two-gallery era of NAN Gallery in 2004 .

4. B-2-C painting business transactions on website became booming from 2005 onward , and NAN Gallery’s management philosophy turned to the two-wheel running , both the modern arts and the indigenous paintings .

5. Renewed NAN Gallery’s website to be a membership platform , providing information of one-to-one fast services in 2006 .

The founder of NAN Gallery Lin Fu-Nan held an individual exhibition of his own abstract oil paintings under the subject of “ The River of Time “ .
